Music Review: Dolly Ki Doli is well-packaged

Sonam Kapoor in Dolly Ki DoliMusic composers Sajid-Wajid do well with Dolly Ki Doli, says Joginder Tuteja.

Producer Arbaaz Khan’s Dolly Ki Doli's music has been composed by Sajid-Wajid, with lyrics by Irfan Kamal, Danish Sabri and Kumaar.

The music here is different from the kind that one heard in Band Baaja Baaraat; it has a couple of dance numbers and a soulful melody to keep the fun element going.

Band and baaja come into play right at the beginning of the album with Sonam Kapoor hitting the floor with Phatte Tak Nachna, which continues from where Engine Ki Seeti had left off in Khoobsurat.

The number maintains a relentless pace right through its near five-minute duration. It could go down very well with audiences. Sunidhi Chauhan is clearly enjoying her time behind the mike and it shows.

With Arbaaz as the producer, it is a given that wife Malaika Arora Khan should be part of the movie. She has a dance number in Fashion Khatam Mujhpe which is sung very well by Mamta Sharma.

Sharma is pretty much turning out to be Malaika's voice in the song and dance routine.

Unlike the raunchy Munni Badnaam, this one is a fun number with Rajkummar Rao dancing along to the beats too.

Wajid and Shabab Sabri join Mamta for this hard-core desi and energetic number.

Wajid takes the lead in Babaji Ka Thullu with Danish Sabri. The song is in the 1980s mode. There is a bit of rap thrown in as well.

On the same lines is Divya Kumar's rendition of the title track Dolly Ki Doli. She was a riot in G Phaadke (Happy Ending) and brings her characteristic energy into play for Dolly Ki Doli as well.

Basically a theme track, one can expect it to be heard in spurts right through the film.

After four fast paced numbers, we see some thehrav with Mere Naina Kafir Hogaye. This one by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is the kind that Salman Khan would have been happy to include in Dabangg 3 as it is in much the same mode as Tere Mast Mast Do Nain (Dabangg) and Dagabaaz Re (Dabangg 2).

It is well packaged, from the composition to the lyrics to the singing and overall presentation, and is a good finale to Dolly Ki Doli.

Sajid-Wajid had quite a job at hand to come up with an album that required a couple of dance numbers and a melody to keep the sweetness going. In that respect, they do well.

But one would have liked songs like Babaji Ka Thullu and title song Dolly Ki Doli to be more compelling.
